Russells Construction has been shortlisted for Contractor of the Year in the first North West Business Insider Residential Awards.
The nomination is for the team’s work on the Vita Student project in Liverpool for Select Property Group. The £28m scheme saw Russells renovate and restore three neighbouring buildings in Crosshall Street, including two which are Grade II listed, to create three distinct luxury student residences.
The trio of buildings included the Grade II-listed Chapel and 1878 Crosshall buildings, built in the 1870s, and the more modern but vacant Tinlings, a former office block. A complex construction challenge involved gutting the historic buildings and rebuilding from within, while retaining and restoring their facades. The projects have drawn praise from the Liverpool City Council heritage and conservation officer.
The result of a three-year programme was the completion of an exceptionally high quality development of 358 high specification studio apartments across three buildings. Already recognised for its quality - the scheme was named in the top 10 most luxurious halls of residence 2015.
The NWBI Resi Awards will be held in January 2016.
